Job description

Fire Engineer / Chartered Surveyor Doncaster Full time, permeant 37.5 hours per week 25 days holiday plus stat £40k - £45k My client is a small fire engineering consultancy based in Doncaster who is looking to expand their team of engineers with either a qualified fire engineer or a chartered surveyor with a building control background who wishes to further their career specialising in fire safety.   Applicants must be a qualified Fire Engineer/Chartered Surveyor with at least 10 years PQE, and a Full UK driving licence.   You will mainly work alongside contractors and architects developing their schemes that deliver design solutions which meet the clients’ aspirations and satisfy the functional requirements on fire safety. Much of the work involves using BS 9999 and BS 9991 as well as AD-B and therefore a thorough understanding and working knowledge of these codes is fundamental to the work.   The work involves reviewing architectural drawings and working with the architect in delivering solutions that satisfies the functional requirements on fire safety. You will be expected to prepare fire safety strategy reports and review these with the client and the Approving Authorities. Good written and communication skills at meetings are essential to the job.   Occasionally, bespoke fire engineered solutions have to be developed, and a knowledge of advanced calculation methods would be required for the fire engineer, but is not essential to the applicant with a chartered surveyors background.   The work is nationwide although the company office is based in Doncaster in which the majority of the applicants time will be office-based. You will be expected to attend client meetings and carry out site inspections to check that fire safety measures have been adequately installed (but not to sign-off) and therefore a good appreciation of the various types of fire safety products and how they are installed is important. Training can be provided by the company to enhance existing knowledge. A valid driving licence is essential to the job in which you can use your own car, or a company contract hire car will be made available. Where there is a long-distance meeting, there will be occasional stay overnight in which reasonable hotel and business expenses will be fully reimbursed. We encourage the successful applicant to further their knowledge in fire safety engineering and will make provision to attend courses if desired, as part of their continuing professional development.
